Friends of Brentwood Library Announce November Showcase and Gallery Artists
Each month, The Friends of the Brentwood Library (FOBL) host the work of local artists at the John P. Holt Brentwood Library. The exhibits remain up for the entire month, and the public is invited to view the artists’ work during library hours, free of charge. Exhibits are displayed in two areas: painting is displayed on the Gallery Wall, while the Showcase Display is for more three-dimensional work. The November Gallery artist is painter Julian Baker and the November Showcase artist is potter Jennifer Cole. Art is available for purchase.
November Gallery Artist:
Julian Baker is our Gallery Artist for November. Julian is a native Nashvillian, but has studied art, architecture and design in Europe. In Europe he was taught to be very rigid and “structured” with his work. This did not sit well with Julian, who likes to “paint on emotion.” It was in a London gallery that he first experienced the work of Howard Hodgkin, who had a major influence on Julian. Hodgkin’s use of vibrant colors and the energy that Julian drew from them enabled Julian to see that he could paint without restrictions. This influence helped Julian to realize he is more comfortable operating outside the box.
November Showcase Artist:
Jenn Cole is exhibiting her pottery in the showcases this month. Originally from Lancaster Ohio, Jenn earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in ceramics in 2012. In addition to exhibiting her own work across the country, Jenn has worked as Gallery Manager for the Appalachian Center for Craft, and Curator of Exhibitions and Gallery Coordinator at Red Lodge Clay Center in Red Lodge, Montana.
