Downloading an eBook with RBdigital

* Instructions for app-based devices (e.g. Android phones/tablets, iPhones/iPads). 

You will need:

  • A valid John P. Holt Brentwood library card
  • Access to wi-fi for your device
  • An RBdigital Account (see below)
  • The RBdigital app downloaded to your device (see below)
  • Laptop, MacBook, Desktop Computer (PC) (for initial setup only)

Initial App/Account Setup

Laptop, MacBook, Desktop Computer (PC) - Account Registration

  1. Navigate https://brentwoodtn.rbdigital.com/#/home in your usual internet browser.
  2. In the top-right corner, click on "Register."
  3. Fill in all the information requested. Once finished, click the "Register" in the bottom-right.
    1. Enter an easy-to-remember username.
    2. Enter in your library card number (The long number under the barcode) in the provided field.
    3. Enter the postal code of the library (i.e. 37027).
    4. Don't forget to accept the "Terms of Service."

Android phones/tablets, iPhones/iPads - App Setup

  1. Open your device's store app and search, "RBdigital".
  2. Select the app with a logo matching the image above.
  3. When the app finishes downloading, open it.
  4. Enter your email address used for the initial RBdigital account creation.
  5. Enter your RBdigital password.

Searching for eBooks

There are many ways to go about discovering new books or looking for a specific author/title.

  • Tap on the magnifying glass icon in the top-right, and then tap the eBooks icon. This will let you search by keyword (i.e. subject), author, or title.
    • You can also further narrow result using the Advanced Search options provided just below.
  • On the app main screen, below the "Home" bar at the top, the third category is eBooks. If you tap the little "View All" box in the bottom-right, you can browse the entire eBooks collection.
  • Tapping on the hamburger icon in the top-left (i.e. the three-line icon), and then taping Books > eBooks, you will see a page similar to the app main screen except everything presented is in eBook format.

Checking out an eBook

  • Upon locating an item, simply tap "Checkout" below the book's cover image. If checkout is missing, but "Hold" is present, tap it to be added to the checkout queue for that item. 
  • To see what items you have checked out, tap the hamburger icon in the top-left (i.e. the three-line icon), then tap "Checked Out."
  • To see what items you have on hold, tap the hamburger icon in the top-left (i.e. the three-line icon), then tap "My Account" > "Holds."

* You can also check out an eBook through the RBdigital website.

Downloading eBooks from Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. - Android Phones/Tablets and iPhones/iPads

You will need:

  • A valid John P. Holt Brentwood library card
  • Access to wi-fi for your device

Initial Setup

  1. Open your device's store app and search, "Libby".
  2. Select the app that states, "Libby by Overdrive".
  3. When the app finishes downloading, open it to begin the initial setup process.
  4. Indicate that you have a library card by tapping, "Yes," for the first question. 
  5. Enter the associated library:
    • If you are performing the initial set up while inside the John P. Holt Brentwood Library, tap, "Yes, Guess My Library."
    • If you are performing the initial set up outside the John P. Holt Brentwood Library or at home, tap, "I'll Search For A Library"
      • Type into the search box the local Zip code (37027), and tap on the icon, "Tennessee READS Buffalo River Region...."
  6. Tap, "Choose A Location" and (scrolling with your finger) tap on "Brentwood Library."
  7. Enter in your library card number (The long number under the barcode).

Searching for eBooks

* eBooks are distinguished from the eAudiobooks by not having the little headset icon appear below the book cover.

There are many ways to go about discovering new books or looking for a specific author/title.

  • The search field at the top of the page allows you to search by Author or Title (more if you use filters)
    • After tapping on the search field, a dropdown called, "More Options" will appear below "Cancel." Tapping on this will open the filters page and allow you to better narrow your search.
  • Clicking, "Explore," just below the logo (top of the page) will provide many links to various book lists based on topics. 
  • Scroll to near the bottom of the page to find a list of book genres.

Checking out an eBook

  1. After locating an item you would like to check out, tap on "Borrow" next to the book's cover image.
    • If it says, "Place Hold," you will be put in the Hold Queue. This queue can be quite long for new releases.
  2. Where it says "You are borrowing...," tap on the number of days (e.g. "14 days") to adjust when the item will be returned.
  3. Tap the large, "Borrow" icon towards the bottom of the screen.
  4. You have now borrowed the item. You can access the item by going to your "Shelf" page.
    • Items by default only download when connected to wi-fi to reduce data usage. This can be changed in Libby's options page.

 

Downloading eBooks from Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. - Kindle Fire

You will need:

  • A valid John P. Holt Brentwood library card
  • Access to wi-fi for your device
  • A Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. account (see below)
  • The Overdrive app downloaded to your device (see below)

Initial App/Account Setup

  1. Open the "Appstore" app and search, "Overdrive."
  2. Select and download the app titled, "Overdrive: Library eBooks & Audiobooks."
  3. When the app finishes downloading, open it to begin the initial setup process.
  4. Tap on, "Have an Account? Sign In."
  5. Tap on, "Sign in using library card."
  6. In the search box type, "Buffalo River Region - Brentwood Library" (be sure to include the spaces before and after the dash), and then select the library from the list.
  7. On the next page, find, "Brentwood Library," in the drop-down list and select it.
  8. Enter in your library card number (The long number under the barcode).
  9. Upon landing at the dashboard screen, you will see a large box in the top-left saying, "Add a title." Tap on this box.
  10. In the search box, again type, "Buffalo River Region - Brentwood Library" (be sure to include the spaces before and after the dash) and select the library from the list.
  11. Tap the star beside, "Tennessee READS," to save it. Then, tap directly on the link to open the Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. homepage.
  12. Tap the sign in button towards the top.
  13. From the drop-down menu, again, select, "Brentwood Library."
  14. Enter in your library card number (The long number under the barcode) and tap "Sign In."
    • Be sure to tap the checkbox for "Remember my Card Number on this Device" so you will not have to reenter this information again in the future.

  • Tap on the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) in the top right for more options. 
    • Click "Subjects" on the heading bar at the top to see a list of book genres.
    • Click "Collections" to locate different booklists based on topics, target audience, and format.

Checking out an eBook

  1. After locating an item you would like to check out, tap on "Borrow" below the book's cover image.
    • If it says, "Place Hold," you will be put in the Hold Queue. This queue can be quite long for new releases.

  4. You have now borrowed the item. You can access the item by going to your "Shelf" page (See the icon that looks like 3 books stacked together near the top of the homepage).
  5. Overdrive does not automatically download the book. You will need to tap "Download EPUB ebook" when checking out or on the Shelf page under Loans.

There is a way to install Libby on a Kindle Fire--only recommended for tech-savvy users. (Link)

 

Downloading eBooks from Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. - Kindle Paperwhite (non-Kindle Fire)

You will need:

  • A valid John P. Holt Brentwood library card
  • Access to wi-fi for your device
  • Access to a Laptop/MacBook/Desktop Computer (PC)

Initial Setup

* All borrowing of ebooks will occur on your Laptop/MacBook/Desktop Computer (PC)

  1. While on a computer, navigate to the Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. website in your browser.
  2. Click on "Sign in" in the top-right space of the webpage.
  3. Click on the dropdown menu and select, "Brentwood Library."
  4. Enter in your library card number (The long number under the barcode)
    • Click in the check mark box if you wish to have to enter your login information again in the future.
  5. Once you have signed in, you can begin to search for and check out eBooks.

  5. After clicking, you will be redirected to Amazon.com where you will need to sign in (if you are not already).
  6. Toward the top right of the page, make sure the device for delivery is correct, then click "Get Library book."
  7. The ebook will be downloaded wirelessly to your Kindle when it is next connected to wi-fi.

 

Downloading eBooks from Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. - Laptops, MacBooks, Desktop Computers (PC)

You will need:

  • A valid John P. Holt Brentwood library card
  • Access to wi-fi for your device (i.e. Internet Access)
  • Access to a Laptop/Macbook/Desktop Computer (PC)

Initial Setup

  1. Navigate to the Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. website in your browser.
  2. Click on "Sign in" in the top-right space of the webpage.
  3. Click on the dropdown menu and select, "Brentwood Library."
  4. Enter in your library card number (The long number under the barcode)
    • Click in the check mark box if you wish to have to enter your login information again in the future.

  • There are two ways to go about reading eBooks on your computer.
    • You can download the eBook as an ePUB file. This will let you read the eBook through appropriate software (e.g. Adobe Digital Editions) or upload the file to a portable device for later reading (e.g. a Kindle or tablet device).
    • You can read the eBook directly on your browser.

 

 


 

 

How to Install the Libby App on your Kindle Fire Tablet (requires temporary security settings modification)

The Libby app is not available in the Amazon Appstore on Kindle Fire devices, but it can still be installed using the following steps.

  1. Go to Settings > Security (or Applications) > Enable Apps from Unknown Sources (this will prompt a warning message, which is normal).
  2. Visit https://apps.goodereader.com/android-apps/e-reader-apps/?did=39495 where you will find the Libby app for download. Click theDownload button.
  3. Launch the Libby app after downloading from the Kindle Carousel page and follow the prompts to find your library and add your library card to the app.
  4. Go back to Settings > Security (or Applications) and disable the "Enable Apps from Unknown Sources."
