Auto-Renewal

  • Items will be automatically renewed if no other patron has a hold request on the items and if the items have not reached their renewal limit (see above chart).
  • A courtesy email notice will confirm which titles have been renewed.
  • This service is disabled for blocked accounts (i.e. Accounts which owe $10.00 or more in charges).
  • Inter-library Loan (ILL) items and Wireless Hotspots cannot be renewed through Auto-Renewal.

Notifications (Email/Text)

Tell a staff member at the front desk that you would like to receive notifications via email and/or text messaging for Hold requests being ready and reminders for almost-due items. These settings may be updated at any time through your library account.

  • Make sure to set your spam-blocking email settings to accept emails from librarynotices@brentwoodtn.gov.
  • These notifications are a courtesy. Patrons are responsible for ensuring items are returned on or before their due-date, regardless of if they do or do not receive these notifications.
  • Do not solely depend on these notifications as there are times when our system may go down unexpectedly or for maintenance.

Returning Library Items

Items must be returned only to the John P. Holt Brentwood Library. We are a city library and are not affiliated with any other branches or library systems. We are not affiliated with the Williamson County Library System.

If you still see an item listed on your account after returning it, please contact the Circulation Department by phone at (615) 371-0090 ext. 8070 or by email at circulationsupervisors@brentwoodtn.gov with details regarding the item and when you returned it.

Vanderbilt Library Cards

The library offers a limited number of Vanderbilt Library Cards that will allow card holders certain privileges for accessing the Vanderbilt University libraries. Please see their dedicated page for more information.

Holds

Placing Hold Requests on Materials

Up to 10 holds per library card.

  • Place holds online or at a computer catalog in the library, or call the Reference Department at (615) 371-0090 ext. 8200 and have your library card handy.
    • Placing a Hold online:
      1. Log onto www.brentwoodtn.gov/library and click on Catalog.
      2. Search for the item you want (Be careful to verify the format you prefer—book, large print, book on CD, etc.).
      3. When you find the correct record, click on the Place Hold button at the bottom of the record, logging into your account when prompted.
      4. Click on the Submit Request button and continue until the confirmation message “Your request has been placed” appears at the top of the screen. Below your contact information are three more choices: return to search results, go to your list of holds requests, or log out.
  • You will be notified when the items become available and and will have 2 days to pick them up from the self-service HOLDS wall by the front desk.
  • Held items must be checked out on the library card that was used to place the hold request. If you send someone to pick up a hold for you, that person must have your library card in hand.

Suspending Hold Requests

You may wish to suspend your hold requests before going out of town. This will prevent items you have on hold from becoming available while you are out of town. (i.e. Items will not be placed on the Holds shelf and you will remain in the queue for the item).

You may suspend your holds:

  • By contacting the Circulation Department by phone, (615) 371-0090 ext. 8070.
  • Speaking with a staff member at the Circulation Desk in person.
  • Online, following the steps listed below.

Suspending Hold Requests Online

  1. Go to My Account on the library homepage, http://www.brentwoodtn.gov/departments/library.
  2. Log into your account and then click on the "Requests" tab.
  3. Click on the "Suspend/Reactivate ALL" button towards the bottom of the page. Yo may also individually select specific items for suspending using the check-mark boxes next to each title and then clicking the "Suspend/Reactivate Selected" button.
  4. Enter the date you want your hold queue to become active again and click "Submit." position in the queue to become active again and click "submit". You will get a confirmation message on the screen that indicates the titles suspended and the activation date for each one.
