The City of Brentwood utilizes a state-of-the-art Traffic Operations Center (TOC) to help improve traffic conditions as problems occur throughout the City. The TOC operates from 7:00 am until 6:00 pm Monday through Friday; however, operators have the ability to use the TOC features remotely 24 hours a day. Since its opening, in 2005, the Traffic Operations Center has endured upgrades and additions which include the deployment of the Centracs® Advanced Transportation Management System and the installation of a secondary 911 dispatcher’s platform. Such upgrades are necessary to stay on the cutting edge of the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) industry. Tours of the TOC facility can be arranged by emailing  Martin Yates

Traffic Operations Center

Currently, all of the City’s 49 signalized intersections can be controlled remotely via the city’s fiber optic network from the TOC by using the traffic management software system. Operators are able to adjust traffic signal timings, in real time, to assist with abnormal traffic conditions caused by motor vehicle accidents, breakdowns or special events. Operators also monitor the city’s coordinated signal systems daily and have the ability to make split and offset adjustments as needed. The City has also installed battery backup systems at the most critical intersections to insure signal operations during a power outage; the City has installed 48 of these systems and will continue to install these systems as the need arises.

In addition, TOC operators and the City’s 911 dispatchers have the ability to monitor real time traffic events using the city’s network of 24 cameras of all major intersections within the city . These cameras give the operator the ability to pan, tilt and zoom the cameras field of view which allow for 360 degree viewing. The public may view a tour of the CCTV cameras every weekday on the City’s public access channel on Comcast (Williamson County) Channel 19 during the AM and PM peak periods.
