Brentwood Statement on NES Outage

The largest ice storm to impact Middle Tennessee in more than 32 years struck our community this week, and Brentwood City staff have worked tirelessly to keep our city safe and operational during an extraordinarily difficult time.

Public Works crews have cleared roadways and removed more than 300 downed trees. Our Water and Sewer employees have been in the field providing generator power to residents with grinder pumps to prevent overflows. Police officers and firefighters continue to serve in hazardous conditions, assisting residents and protecting public safety.

We know this storm has affected every corner of our community—our residents and our employees alike. We also recognize that for many households, the ongoing loss of electricity has created serious hardship. The pace of power restoration in Brentwood has been too slow, and our residents should not be expected to wait another week or more for service to be restored.

Nashville Electric Service (NES) is a municipally owned, not-for-profit public electric utility, and the City of Brentwood has no lawful authority to regulate or direct its operations. Our employees are not qualified or authorized to work on NES power lines. Additionally, the City is not receiving more detailed or advance information about restoration timelines than what residents are seeing through media reports and public NES updates.

That said, please know this clearly: we are pressing NES daily to accelerate restoration efforts in Brentwood and to provide clearer, more direct communication to our residents. Brentwood is among the hardest-hit communities in NES’s service area, and we are advocating continuously and unapologetically on behalf of our citizens until power is fully restored.

We have heard your concerns, and we share them. Given the significant increase in communication we are receiving on this issue, we are establishing a central point of contact for residents to share concerns related to power restoration:

Responses will reflect the same information shared in this update, as the City’s role and available information remain unchanged; however, your feedback matters and strengthens our position as we continue to push for faster action.

This storm has touched us all. Our residents deserve urgency, transparency, and results—and we are fighting hard to ensure Brentwood receives them. We appreciate your patience and resilience, and we will continue communicating as this situation evolves.
