Free Screening of Parton’s “Steel Magnolias” Sept. 25 in Crockett Park

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Brentwood will always love Dolly Parton. The Country Music icon, dedicated philanthropist, and longtime Brentwood resident passed away last month, leaving the city – and much of the world – in mourning.

“We’re proud she chose to live in our community for many years and loved the stories of her doing her own shopping ‘incognito’ – people swear you would never recognize her off-stage,” Mayor Nelson Andrews said.

At 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, the city will honor Parton’s legacy with a free screening of her popular 1989 film, “Steel Magnolias,” at Crockett Park. Residents are encouraged to wear pink to the film about a group of women friends who like to laugh and talk at the local beauty shop.

The famed film critic Roger Ebert enjoyed the movie’s humor and its heart, but he saved some of his highest praise for Parton.

“The beauty shop is operated by Dolly Parton in still another reminder that she is one of the sunniest and most natural of actresses,” he wrote.

The city picked the Sept. 25 (9/25) date for the outdoor screening to pay tribute to another Parton film – “9 to 5.” In addition to the movie, the event will feature themed food trucks – The Pink Truck TN, Livvi’s Lunchbox, and Southern Belle Scoops.

Bring a lawn chair, a friend, and maybe a box of tissues for this special evening in Crockett Park. And don’t forget your pink.
