Arden Woods & Scales Area, Sewer Lift Station Rehabilitation
This project provides for an on-going, proactive program to rehabilitate the City's sewer lift stations including operating equipment that provides alternative pumping methods during an emergency. The project scope includes construction to abandon the Arden Woods lift station located near 6402 Fisher Ct. and connect the area sewers that discharge to that station to a gravity sewer located on Scales School property. The Scales area pump station will also be rehabilitated and upsized.
This work will be completed by the end of the year 2025. began in the summer of 2024 with construction to install new sewer lines in Fisher Court, over to the Scales School property now compete and the road paved. There has been a delay during the winter months, awaiting delayed supplies needed for the Scales station rehabilitation. Work is anticipated to begin again in late mid to late spring and continue through the summer of 2025. One of the last tasks under this work will be to demolish the Arden Woods pump station site and restore the site to match the surrounding grounds.
Emergency Operations, System Resiliency Planning Project
The Department is working to enhance emergency operations at several of the City's key water and sewer pumping stations located throughout the City to provide for enhanced resiliency and customer service. Utilizing federal funding to procure a number of fixed and portable generators, the Department has initiated construction at a number of pumping station sites throughout the service district which includes adding generators or providing electrical upgrades that will allow for the portable generator hookups to maintain service during storm events and related power outage. Station locations include Split Log Road, Edmondson Pike, Chenoweth neighborhood, Overlook Park, Morgan Farms, Long Street, Plymouth Drive, River Oaks, Robert E. Lee and the Raintree neighborhood, This project will continue through February of 2026.
Wilson Pike Water Line Project
The Wilson Pike water line project includes replacing and upsizing the water line between Twin Springs Drive and Crockett Road. This project is identified in the Department's Water System Master Plan as needed to maintain system buildout capacity. The contractor on this project began work in September, 2025 and will continue into early spring 2026.
Sewer Rehabilitation Program - Tower Park, Equalization Facility #2
The Water Services Department's, Sewer System Master Plan includes multiple infrastructure projects identified as critical to provide capacity for long-term build out and continued regulatory compliance. Sewer system equalization tanks (storage) are engineered to manage sewer flows within the system during significant wet weather storm events. As storm water enters the sewer system, the piping can be overwhelmed and cause overflows during the storm event. Equalization (or EQ) facilities are designed to help manage the this flow by storing the excessive water intrusion temporarily until such time flows in the system subside. Then the stored volume can be slowly released back into the system.
In 2024, the City' Board authorized the start of design work on the second of two planned EQ tanks to be located in the Tower Park area of Brentwood. The first EQ facility was constructed just south of Old Hickory Blvd. and west of Hillsboro Road and was placed into operation in 2023. This second EQ facility will include construction of the storage tank, pumping station and underground piping to and from the tank to the sewer system's trunk line located at the northern boundary of Tower Park. The tank site location has been selected and will be constructed in the southwest corner of Tower Park, adjacent to the WSM tower and Concord Rd./I-65 northbound on ramp. Construction work is anticipated to begin around the first of the year in 2027 and continue for approximately 18 months.
