Project Description
The efficient operation of traffic signals is one of the most cost-effective methods for improving traffic flow within the City. Ensuring that signal equipment is upgraded when necessary and maximizing signal capabilities through advanced technologies is a key component in addressing traffic concerns. Additionally, continued growth in the City and surrounding areas will likely necessitate the installation of additional signals at warranted intersections in the future.
The purpose of this project is to implement traffic signal system upgrades at 44 intersections throughout the City of Brentwood as part of a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) improvement initiative. The upgrades will include the installation of new signal equipment, video detection systems, accessible pedestrian signals (APS), and ADA-compliant curb ramps where required. Traffic signal timing will also be programmed to optimize intersection operations and improve overall traffic flow. The project aims to enhance traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve pedestrian safety at key intersections. Construction is expected to begin Summer of 2025 and is being completed as a Local Programs TDOT project.
