BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The City of Brentwood has named Julie Wilson, a certified municipal finance officer, as the city’s new finance director. She will begin her new role on Jan. 26.
“I am pleased to announce that Brentwood’s assistant finance director, Julie Wilson, has been appointed to be our next finance director,” Jason Gage, Brentwood City Manager, said. “Julie has been a key part of our finance team for more than five years, and she has done a terrific job for us.”
Earlier this year, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada presented Brentwood’s finance team with its 33rd consecutive Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2025 annual budget document.
Wilson will take over the position from Karen Harper, who will end her 30-year career with Brentwood after the city’s budget is approved later this summer. The city will kick off its 2026-2027 budget process with an initial work session on Jan. 29. The final budget will be presented for the City Commission’s approval in June.
Wilson is well versed in this process, and her experience will allow the city to continue its tradition of strong fiscal management. Wilson is a Certified Public Accountant, and she earned her master’s degree in accounting from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. She has more than 15 years of local governmental accounting experience in Tennessee and Missouri, and she previously worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
Wilson also has significant accounting experience in a variety of industries, previously working in public accounting and auditing for firms like Ernst & Young and Rubin Brown.
