Brentwood Seeking Applicants for Veterans Memorial Ad Hoc Committee
Published on May 30, 2025
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – On May 27, the day after Memorial Day, the Brentwood City Commission established an ad hoc committee to create a veterans’ memorial on city-owned property, and the commission is looking for six Brentwood residents to serve on this new committee.
“The committee will solicit input from local veterans, veterans’ organizations, and the broader community,” Brentwood City Manager Jason Gage said. “This is something you want to get a lot of engagement, collaboration and input for.”
Anyone interested in serving on this board needs to apply at www.brentwoodtn.gov/volunteerboards before noon on June 12. The City Commission will review the applications and appoint the six members during its June 23 meeting.
In addition to the six residents, the committee will consist of one city commissioner and one member of the Brentwood Historic Commission. The committee is tasked with developing a proposal that will include:
- A description and conceptual design of the memorial.
- Estimated project cost.
- Description of any fundraising activities to be conducted by the committee.
- Project schedule and timeline.
- Parameters and procedures for vetting the names and service records of any individual veterans to be included on the memorial.
“They will also discuss the idea of whether it will include names or not,” Gage said. “We want to get that right. So, it’s a good item for the committee to get input on as they discuss that with veterans.”
The City Commission will choose the site for the memorial, and they will provide that information to the committee. Gage said the city hopes to have the memorial installed within 18 months.
“The aggressive goal would be to have the entire project done by the end of 2026,” he said.
