E-Bike Trend Observations from the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt's Trauma Registry
Patient Gender:
• E-Bikes: 88% Male
• Bikes: 67% Male
Average age at time of crash:
•E-Bikes: 12 years old
•Bikes: 10.5 years old
Helmet usage:
•E-Bikes: 58%
•Bikes: 11%
Average ISS score:*
•E-Bikes:10
•Bikes: 6
*An ISS score tells the severity of a patient’s injuries, so the higher the number, the worse their injuries are. There’s a big difference in 6 and 10 so obviously (due to speed, likely) the e-bikes are more dangerous for children to be on than bicycles
Typical injuries:
Fractures, abrasions, lacerations, contusions, dislocations, concussions
